Cockney in Kilburn

Surprise, surprise London's not different to other cities when it comes to having it's own distinct dialect. But how come that THE London dialect hasn't got it's roots in the city or in one of the posh areas in and near the centre?

Who would have thought that London's most popular dialect is coming straight out of the East End? Straight out of Cockney. So it's not about Kengsington, Chelsea, Notting Hill or Westminster dialects, no, it's all about Cockney. It's big in Kilburn! Initially I thought it's kind of a youth language, but it's not. Cockney seems to be THE dialect, THE language, no THE lifestyle - everybody's speaking Cockney in London. Even the tube drivers are driving to 'eathrow Terminals 1,2 and 3 nowadays.

So you've got to learn Cockney if you want to be in! How? Just listen. It's all over the place. And if you don't want to just listen anyway. It's bloody amusing :)
