Worldwide Austria

Who said that Austria is an island (of bliss) in the centre of Europe, a tiny system on it's own? Nowadays Austrian companies and brands are going out for taking over the world. Doing that they're applying high sophisticated marketing and branding strategies, ain't they?

The other day I found Katzenzungen in a corner shop on Kilburn High Road. Do they still sell them in Austria? They do in Kilburn!

Certainly it's not the originals in the red and white box we used to receive as small presents from guests in our childhood. Nevertheless I love them, especially the flashy design of this packaging :)

Recently seen in Sri Lanka: supermarket shelves full of Austrian cheese. Anybody recognise this brand? Made me feel like home despite being away a few thousand miles.

A masterpiece of branding made in Austria. But hang on, something's wrong, as recently discovered at ASDA.

Even more than 100 years of yoghurt tradition in Lower Austria couldn't save the Ö. Why's that? Apparently because there's no Ö in the English language. So why didn't they get rid of the Ü dots in ? I guess because the British like exotic things like Belgian chocolate or Austrian yoghurt...

In Sweden (at least in a local supermarket in Gothenburg) they're selling one of the most popular Austrian beer brands: Gösser. Obviously they're even doing a separate flavour of this brew from Leoben/Styria with a lower abv than normal as supermarkets in Sweden are not allowed to sell alcoholic beverages with more than 3.5% abv.

Cheers!
