Art could be defined quite narrow: paintings, sculptures, literature, music; all these classic ways of artists expressing their view on certain things. But nowadays art is more.
Street art for instance is one of those artistic disciplines that really matter, at least for a few cities. I believe that London is not pro-street-art despite several sources may see this differently (if an artist would be able to finish her or his work under a bridge or on a building without being disturbed by the police someone would take care that it would vanish instantly) but other cities do. How come? The capital of the country where the most famous street artist, Banksy, comes from obviously sees street art as daub? Fortunately other cities do not. Cities like Paris and Milan. How come that London hasn't recognised the various functions of street art yet? Artistic, social, promotional, touristy,... functions. How come that London hasn't realised yet that street art really matters? According to Wikipedia street art is 'any art developed in public spaces'. So it's art everyone can produce in any kind of public environment. And the best is: it's free, for everybody! So why do we not have more street art then? Apparently some of us do not like it. That's a shame. Just imagine how exciting and stunning our urban environment could look like if there would be a few more of these...
