I knew it from the beginning! The moment I left my hotel room I rented for the first ten days of my London experience on the weekend I realised what I'm going to be facing party wise: WBPB – Weird British Party Behaviour!
So I decided to observe this in the beginning. I tried to understand what's happening, why they're doing that and when. Pretty soon I found an answer on the when-question: every time! The entire weekend long, every day when they've left the office (they would do it in the offices if they could!) and whenever they haven't got anything else to do. Why are they doing it? Nobody will ever know an answer on this question. It might be a mentality thing, it might be some kind of compensation for their boring jobs. I don’t know. What’s happening is actually hard to describe but I try. Usually it starts with drinking way too much alcohol. And there’s lots of alcohol around, starting with beer, wine, spirits, disgusting things nobody knows what it actually is (like Pimm’s… with cucumber…?!?). The list is long. Once they’re tipsy the show begins. Then they usually start doing stupid things, preferably in costumes. And it can even get worse! They like playing games. Preferably sporty games. Games involving water, flour, any kind of food, inflatable things,… Perhaps it’s some kind of competition thing that’s deep inside of them, perhaps it’s just that they constantly like to go over the top. I don’t know. I just know that the games can be, well, quite silly. I would say, the more silly the more they like them. So in my European manner I tried to avoid all of that, tried to ignore it. Impossible! They notice when people are not joining. So I had to do what they were doing. Not everything but a lot (when considering that I’m European). To be very honest: it was fun! Surprisingly enough…
The final question: Will I do it again? Potentially, but definitely not anywhere else than in Britain. Because I’m European, proper European (who even knows the neighbour countries of Luxembourg)!
