As the first worldcup week has gone it's time for a review. I'm not supporting one particular nation - I still don't know anything about football to be completely honest. But I'm learning.... And I've changed my attitude towards football slightly.
For a long time football was some kind of stupid to me. 22 guys chasing a ball on the lawn, fouling each other and feigning to be seriously injured. Masses of fans bawling foolish rhymes, drinking too much beer and being at loggerheads with fans of the opposing team. While writing this I realise that I still believe that football is a bit stupid. But experiencing football in the UK has widened my perspective on this sport. There's more than the ball, drunk guys and hooligans. There's a community with common interests, there's people who like to share their thoughts on the last night's match, there's economy, of course, aiming for increasing sales. And there's music, bands supporting their national teams with songs. Songs like 'Goal! England' performed by 'We are Scientists'. Good music? I don't know. Listen and build your own opinion!
Whatever you might think about this track and about supporting national teams take a step back and be open minded. Even when it comes to football. Football can be fun, potentially. And this is what I'm saying, the guy who doesn't even know what the offside rule is. Actually, did Germany or Ivory Coast win the match? Anyway...
Goal! England
