What's happened to the Dutch?

Reading international press today I found loads of interesting stories: the Greeks probably could sell some islands for easing their financial plight, the tense relations of the Swiss to Gaddafi, the 'warning' of the Austrian health minister to completely ban smoking in venues. But WTH is going on in the Netherlands?

As probably most Europeans and even politically interested people all round the globe in the meantime are used to right-wing parties recently gaining more and more popularity in countries like Austria, Hungary and even in the UK it shouldn't be too surprising that this trend continues in other countries. But reading that the right-wing populist Wilders has won most of the votes in the Dutch city of Almere and gained impressive results in Den Haag and other regions in the Netherlands I start doubting of the Dutch liberality. What's happened to the Dutch? They've been famous for being one of the most friendly, open minded and liberal nations in Europe. But recent political activies proof that they currently experience a deep shift to the right. Is it again the economic depression that's caused this alarming development? Or is it that people are more and more sick of politicians promising a better future but not caring for the present? Or is it just that people are stupid and listen to the loudest voice shouting the most simple messages? Whatever the reason might be something must be done against this development! Immediately! I'm not talking about banning parties like PVV or FPOE or whatever their abbreviations are, I'm claiming more political proactiveness of the other parties in order to voters not getting tired of politics and shifting to the right-wing.
