Recently the musician and author Christiane Rösinger engaged in her column 'Aus dem Leben der Lo-Fi Boheme' with societal groups like Dinkys, Yuppies, Wags, Bobos and Lohas.
Probably everybody has heard of 'Young Urban Professsionals' once in lifetime and most of us want to be a 'Double Income No Kids', not only because children are very expensive, loud and annoying. But recently there seems to be a new trend because more and more 'Urbans' get kids and show them in public when driving them in buggys through the streets, cafés, restaurants,... By the way, am I the only one who hates mothers who stuck the pavements with their oversized pushschairs?
But there are other terms for societal groups that are not that common in german-speaking areas. Probably the fewest of us have heard of Wags the 'Wifes and Girlfriends' of the british football players before. And there is a new term which explains where all the Neubau-Bobos have gone. By the way, I was quite astonished when a few months ago I was termed as Bobo. I didn't want to be a Bobo because Bobos are workoholics, superficial, cranky and smoke too much. But when cogitating further about that I realized that I've been a typical Bobo by living in my urban vein, except of smoking and beeing superficial. But now there's a new term for people like me and I love it: the Lohas. This term describes perfectly the way I'm living because I buy in wholefood shops, dont't take the elevator, wear organic clothes, separate waste, don't have a car and save electricity. But I'm still one of these Urbans who spends his spare time in these nice urban cafés and restaurants only within the city of course, in museums, galeries, reads urban books written by urban authors and ridicules everything that's beyond the danube.
I really like it not beeing a Neubau-Bobo anymore. I really like to be a Neubau-Lohas now. I really like my 'Life Of Health And Sustainability', in the city centre of course.
